Hello friends! After learning that once again our Holy Father was undergoing medical care, I decided to turn to something written by him before he was elected Pope. The following quotations are from a homily he gave in 2012, echoing the call of the then-pontiff Benedict XVI to “cross the threshold of faith”. These words spoke especially this disciple:
“Crossing the threshold of faith challenges us to discover that the sad reality we see around us can change. Even though it seems today that death in its various forms prevails, that history is governed by the rule of the strongest (or the cleverest), and that hatred and ambition are the driving forces behind so much human strife, we are also utterly convinced that this sorry situation ultimately can and must change, because ‘if God is for us, who is against us?’ (Rom 8:31)…
“Crossing the threshold of faith challenges us to have the heart of a child, who is not ashamed to still believe in the impossible. We can still live in hope, which alone can give meaning to history and transform it. As God’s children, we can ask unceasingly, pray without losing heart, and worship him so that our vision may be transfigured…
Crossing the threshold of faith demands that we struggle for freedom and peaceful coexistence. Even though the culture around us may abandon its principles, we know with certainty that the Lord asks us to ‘do do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly’ (Mic 6:8) with our God".”
